ENG101: English Language is a foundational General Studies course designed to develop students’ competence and confidence in the use of English for academic, professional, and social communication. The course focuses on the structure and use of the English language, emphasizing grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills required for university study and effective participation in society.
Students will engage with a variety of texts and language tasks aimed at improving comprehension, clarity, accuracy, and coherence in both written and spoken English. The course also introduces key aspects of academic communication, including paragraph development, essay writing, summarizing, referencing, and critical reading. Attention is given to common language challenges faced by first-year students in multilingual contexts.
